Abstract

Cannabis abuse is a social problem that has been increasing in adolescents and adults, affecting them in various dimensions of their lives. As such, this research focuses on the effectiveness of behavioral treatments for cannabis abuse. The objective of this systematic review was to analyze the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for the treatment of cannabis use disorder, specifically, when administered independently and when combined with other behavioral interventions. A search for articles was carried out in Redalyc and PubMed, following the guidelines of the PRISMA declaration. 21 articles were included for the systematic review. The main results demonstrate CBT has effects on reducing consumption and the severity of dependence, especially when combined with motivational interviewing and contingency management, managing to maintain abstinence for longer.
