Abstract

This study analyzed the effect of mediated exposure to restorative environments on stress and well-being in women with breast cancer. A single-group pre-test (O1) and post-test (O2) design was used with 36 women with breast cancer (M = 50.19; SD = 7.93) who were exposed to high-restorative potential images during four weekly sessions of eight minutes each. The variables of stress, well-being, and restorative potential were assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale, the Physical, Psychological, and Social Well-Being Scale, and the Perceived Restorative Scale. No statistically significant differences were found in intragroup stress and well-being levels (O1 vs. O2). The restorative potential of the images was affected by the participants’ age. Positive and significant relationships were found between overall well-being, the restorative potential of the images, and the qualities of fascination, being away, and coherence, as well as relationships between some of the restorative qualities and the well-being dimensions.
