Resumen
Children living in residential care homes (RCHs) often experience neglect due to separation, abuse, and mistreatment; circumstances that are detrimental to adequate emotional development, leading to aggressive behavior, low self-esteem, anxiety, and other developmental challenges. Furthermore, the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic hindered and limited mental health resources. The objective of this study was to design and evaluate the effectiveness of a remotely applied emotional intelligence (RA-EIBI) intervention program in a pilot sample of children residing in RCHs during the lockdown caused by the pandemic. A nonparametric comparative pre-test, treatment, and post-test design was used to evaluate the program's effectiveness. The results showed no significant differences between the pre- and post-intervention measures, suggesting that emotional intelligence remained relatively stable during the period of social isolation due to COVID‑19.
